The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) hosted an Industry Day for the NASA Agency-wide Information Technology (IT) Infrastructure Integration Program (I3P) Acquisition.

Hundreds Hear about NASA’s IT Infrastructure Integration Program (I3P)

At the end of this decade, NASA will consolidate IT Infrastructure Service requirements in five agency-wide procurements to be announced soon. NASA invited people from the IT industry to attend a preliminary conference on July 23. More than 800 people participated!

Kennedy Space Center CIO Mike Bolger coordinated the event at the Regan Building in Washington D.C. and on Webcast. He said: “We explained that NASA will establish Source Evaluation Boards (SEB) at MSFC, NSSC, HQ, and maybe one additional Center. We plan to issue RFPs in January 2009, with new contracts expected to be in place by December, 2009.
CIO Jonathan Pettus describes
NASA's IT environment.
The procurements will preserve NASA’s partnership with both large and small business interests.”

NASA CIO Jonathan Pettus described the significant transformation of NASA’s IT management and infrastructure that is under way. The changes enable NASA’s mission by:
  • Better integrating the agency’s people, processes, and information

  • Improving security

  • Achieving cost savings
Mike Bolger explains that the I3P acquisition consolidates NASA’s IT Infrastructure requirements that will enable better Agency-wide collaboration.
He said that the five I3P procurements represent a critical step in that transformation, and a successful partnership with industry will be a critical factor toward achieving NASA’s IT goals.

Other NASA speakers at Industry Day were:
  • Assistant Administrator for Procurement Bill McNally

  • Associate CIO – Architecture and Infrastructure Mike Hecker

  • Assistant Administrator Office of Small Business Programs Glenn Delgado

The goals of Industry Day were to:
  • Communicate NASA’s I3P acquisition plans
  • Describe IT infrastructure requirements at the various NASA Centers
  • Solicit input on NASA’s strategic IT approach from industry
  • Establish an interested parties list
  • Introduce key government personnel to include roles and responsibilities
  • Promote competition
